Test test test
For this week’s blog, I will provide some advice for next year’s media students; both returnees and newbie’s. The advice is to cooperate with your partner, not procrastinate, and be sure to sign equipment in and out. The first piece of advice I’d like to share, is to cooperate with your partner. Mr. Matsunaga assigns every student with a partner. In the first two quarters of the year, students will work with their partner to create a news story. It is very important to cooperate with your partner because they are the ones who will be mentoring and helping you get through the media class successfully. Be sure to ask a lot of questions, listen, keep up with your work, and pay attention in class! You can’t sit around doing nothing while your partner does all the work. For the returnees, we need to help the new students understand the things that need to be done in class. We also have to be GREAT role models and lead the new students in the right path. With our help and guidance, our partners will become successful students.
The second piece of advice is to not procrastinate! This is very important because procrastinating makes things very difficult. For example, some students procrastinated on their 4th Quarter projects. As a result, these students are paying the price by turning their projects in late which may have an effect on their grade. My partner and I may have procrastinated on our 2nd Quarter project. We had no choice, but to turn it in late! The third piece of advice is to sign equipment in and out. We are so blessed and fortunate to have equipment to use for class. Mr. M needs to know the whereabouts of each piece of equipment because it’s expensive and difficult to replace. He also needs to know who has the equipment. If anything were to be lost, not only would Mr. M be upset, but the class would have less equipment to use. This is the main purpose we have a sign in/out sheet. This advice is very important for your future in the media class. I hope you learned a few things and enjoyed my blog. Until next time, bye! I've decided, that I will be presenting my “CKTV Promo” video instead of my "Pay it Forward" video for family night. This production is about the tasks students do in the Chiefess Kamakahelei Television (CKTV) media class. Some of these tasks include editing, filming, producing “Inside Scoops” (radios), and much more!
I want to present this video because it will give new students a perspective of the things they will need to do in the media class and what they can expect. I made this video with my partner, Haven for our 2nd Quarter project. For those of you coming to media next year, I hope you enjoy the video! For this week’s blog, I will write an update on my fourth Quarter project which I’m doing with Kelli. Our project, “The Call That Changed it All, The Agents Return”, is due on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, and we are just around the corner to finishing it!
Kelli and I filmed the last parts of the film on Saturday, May 17, 2014. All of the actors, except for Dalson and Micah, made it to the shooting. We also recorded some voiceovers. All we need to do is edit these last clips, then we should be done. Some things we need to improve on, is not getting distracted. When we were filming, we got carried away with our props, electronics and ended playing instead of working. We also need to plan ahead of time. We didn’t think about gathering together to go over the scenes, and figure out how long it would take. Some challenges we faced while working, were audio problems, being responsible, taking control over the actors, and scheduling dates to film. These challenges made producing our film very difficult, but it also prepares us for what we will face in the future. I am confident Kelli and I will finish this film before the deadline. With determination, effort, and hard work, we will finish this film successfully! I hope you enjoyed my blog. Until next time, goodbye! I recently watched "The Amazing Spider-Man 2." In the movie, Peter Parker tries to figure out what happened to his father, Richard Parker, and what led to his disappearance. He also tries to figure out why his father left him only a briefcase and some other trinkets.
In the movie, his long-time friend, Harry Osborn is going to die from a disease that runs in the Osborn family. To keep him from dying, Henry needs Spider-Man's blood to keep him alive. As much as Peter would like to give Harry his blood, he can't because he’s afraid that something tragic might happen to him. Spider-Man also needs to defeat Electro, a villain that has electric powers. Before he became Electro, he used to be a lonely man named Max Dillon. He worked for Oscorp industries until he fell into a pool of super electric eels while fixing a power line. The eels bit Max to death which turned him into ELECTRO! He became a villain because he wants everyone to know who he is by taking all the power in the city. Electro wants people to know how it feels to live in a world without power, without mercy, and without Spider-Man. This is one of the best movies I’ve seen! The graphics and animation were phenomenal! I also enjoyed the sound effects. It made the movie filled with emotion and made you feel like you were in it! I've watched some behind the scenes videos and interviews with the cast. It shows how they produced the movie and what they had to do to film it. It was very interesting. I hope you enjoyed my blog and I hope you watch the movie too! Bye! Kelli and I are half way done with our 4th quarter project! We filmed half of the production at Lydgate Park and edited most of it. On Monday, May 5th, 2014, we filmed the other half of the production at the KIUC building.
The students who acted in our film included Brooke, Halle, Micah, Ben. M, Ben. B, and Dalson. Kelli and I got a bunch of filming done, but we didn’t quite finish, therefore, Halle, Kelli and I returned to the KIUC building on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 to complete a few shots which included Halle. I'd like to extend a very big “thank you” to Kelli's parents for chaperoning us. Some other people I’d also like to thank, are the other student’s parents for allowing them to say late to film. I’d especially like to thank the boys for giving up their time on Boy's Day to help us act in our film! Please wish us luck on the rest of our project, bye! For this week’s blog, I will write about the video I plan to present at Family Night on May 29, 2014. That night, new students and their families will come and watch the videos that the current media students have produced over the past school year (2013-2014).
The video I originally wanted to present was the “Call That Changed it All, the Agents Return.” Kelli and I are both producers of the film, but unfortunately only one person can present it. Therefore, I decided she can do it. Instead, I will present my “Pay it Forward” PSA. I decided to present my PSA because it was the first video I completed successfully on my own, during my first year of media. I know my peers would like this video because it has a great message. I put a lot of effort into this PSA, tried my best, and had fun. I was scared at first because I thought my video wouldn’t be that great, but with the help/guidance of others, it turned out the way I wanted it. When I present my video at Family Night, I hope the new students will get a glimpse of what they would need to produce when there are in the class next year. I hope you enjoyed my blog. Until next time bye! Mr. Matsunaga recently talked about how some students in class are slacking off. He talked about how some students aren't finishing their blogs on time or even completing it at all! He also said that some students in the class aren't putting enough effort into their text dependent questions (questions that need to be answered, based on the article read). One thing I've noticed, is that students talk amongst themselves while Mr. M is teaching. I think this is disrespectful and a waste of everyone's time because Mr. M has to stop his teaching, and tell them to stop. When Mr. M does this, it takes time away from other students in the class who are listening.
Also, students have not been keeping up with their blogs, or even finishing them! The fact that we have already attended STN doesn't mean we can slack off and do nothing for the rest of the year. We need to get with the program and finish our blogs! Mr. M gives us two blogs a week, and expects us to finish them! I finish them at the very end of the week, but I turn it in on time. This happens because I get distracted and procrastinate! I am trying my best not to do that, which is why I've been trying to finish my blog earlier in the week and stay focused. Students are also turning in the text dependent questions late. Mr. M specifically said that the questions were due on Monday, April 28, 2014, but several students didn't finish it and didn't turn it in. Only 9 of 26 students turned in their text dependent questions by the due date. Mr. M was very disappointed. He lectured the class about this and said that if we slack off, the class would have to do another text dependent paper. This was our second paper because students slacked off during the previous one. To prevent this from happening and to stay on track, the class needs to discipline themselves, stay focused, and not let themselves get distracted, including me! Mr. M wants us to finish strong and become GREAT students! We have one month left and still have a lot to do. He expects more from us. We are not little children anymore; we are young adults! Starting next school year, returning students who are in the current media class will mentor and be partnered up with new students. I am not very confident about mentoring someone because I am still unsure about some things. I don't want to mislead or teach my partner the wrong way. I also don't want their grade to get affected because of my poor mentoring, however, Mr. M said that I have this last quarter to learn the things I am unsure about. He also said that when he selects the partners, it's not random. He takes the time to think about who should go with who because of their experience in the class.
I hope to be just like my partner Haven. She was an awesome mentor for me. If I want to become a great mentor like her, I need to improve on some things such as being less uptight and less distracted. I tend to get distracted very easily and end up not focusing. I also get uptight and grouchy when I am frustrated. Please wish me luck! I hope you enjoyed my blog. Until next time, goodbye! For this week’s blog, I will write a few ideas that our CKTV class can do to serve the community. We should do more to serve our island community because they have supported and helped the class get to STN. This could be our way to give back and thank everyone for their support! Some ideas are to serve food to the homeless, participate in the Visitor Industry Charity Walk, and participate in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. I believe these services will not only give back to the community, but will also bring the class together as a team.
My first idea is to serve meals to homeless. They are less fortunate than us and don’t have enough money to afford things. I have served food to the homeless a few times when I was younger. It felt so good to help out. I think if we do this every quarter, we may make a huge impact on their lives. Perhaps we can start next school year! My second idea is to raise funds and participate in the Visitor Industry Charity Walk. This walk is put on by the visitor industries (hotels, restaurants, airlines, car rental agencies etc…). The proceeds benefit over 45 non-profit agencies on Kauai such as Boys and Girls Club, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts, Hospice, Red Cross, and more! If we do this every year, we will be helping out the visitor industries of Kauai as well as many agencies on Kauai. This brings the class together as a team because we will walk and stay in a group. This will give us a chance to talk story while we walk, then enjoy a nice breakfast together. My third idea is to participate in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. This fundraiser raises money for the American Cancer Society. This society does many things such as research, prevention, or volunteerism. The Relay for Life is a large fundraising activity and an overnight (24 hour) community, fundraising walk. If we participate in Relay for Life, we will help save lives faster. This will bring the class together as a team because we stay overnight and spend time with each other. We will then learn more about our class mates. The class can do this every year; we can even start next month on May 3, 2014! I think these efforts will create a huge impact on others lives and the community. I WILL DEFINITELY COMMIT TO THIS! This would be my thank you to the community! I hope you enjoyed my blog. Until next time, goodbye! |
