For this week’s blog, I will write a few ideas that our CKTV class can do to serve the community. We should do more to serve our island community because they have supported and helped the class get to STN. This could be our way to give back and thank everyone for their support! Some ideas are to serve food to the homeless, participate in the Visitor Industry Charity Walk, and participate in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. I believe these services will not only give back to the community, but will also bring the class together as a team.
My first idea is to serve meals to homeless. They are less fortunate than us and don’t have enough money to afford things. I have served food to the homeless a few times when I was younger. It felt so good to help out. I think if we do this every quarter, we may make a huge impact on their lives. Perhaps we can start next school year!
My second idea is to raise funds and participate in the Visitor Industry Charity Walk. This walk is put on by the visitor industries (hotels, restaurants, airlines, car rental agencies etc…). The proceeds benefit over 45 non-profit agencies on Kauai such as Boys and Girls Club, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts, Hospice, Red Cross, and more! If we do this every year, we will be helping out the visitor industries of Kauai as well as many agencies on Kauai. This brings the class together as a team because we will walk and stay in a group. This will give us a chance to talk story while we walk, then enjoy a nice breakfast together.
My third idea is to participate in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. This fundraiser raises money for the American Cancer Society. This society does many things such as research, prevention, or volunteerism. The Relay for Life is a large fundraising activity and an overnight (24 hour) community, fundraising walk. If we participate in Relay for Life, we will help save lives faster. This will bring the class together as a team because we stay overnight and spend time with each other. We will then learn more about our class mates. The class can do this every year; we can even start next month on May 3, 2014!
I think these efforts will create a huge impact on others lives and the community. I WILL DEFINITELY COMMIT TO THIS! This would be my thank you to the community! I hope you enjoyed my blog. Until next time, goodbye!
