For this week’s blog, I will write about the third STN practice that was held on Saturday, February 8, 2014. Some groups decided to come to the practice and some didn’t. The groups that participated were Music Video, Movie Trailer, Commercial, and Spot Feature. My group, the Public Service Announcement (PSA) group, agreed on coming to the practice. The students in our group included Justice, Dalson, Isabel, and I.
Our PSA topic was “Stop Spreading GERMS.” In our PSA, Isabel is playing “FlappyBird” (a video game) on her phone, then, she coughs in her hand, but keeps on playing. I come in, and ask her if I could play the game. She says “yes.” Suddenly, I start to cough in my hand. Dalson then comes in and watches me play. I ask him if he wants to play too but he says “No way sista cuz you just coughed in your hand and I don’t want to get sick, so I’ll pass!”
Our group tried to improve in our PSA this time. We tried to make our PSA funny to get the audience’s attention. We also checked our equipment ahead of time; and fortunately there were no technical difficulties.
One of the things we need to improve on is having continuity. Continuity is when the shot continues and makes sense. We didn’t have continuity. For example, I stood up when I asked Isabel to play the video game, but in the next shot, I was sitting down; I was supposed to stay standing. We also need to work on leveling the tripod/ camera. Some shots of our PSA were crooked. One last thing we need to improve in is making our PSA match the topic. We didn’t really explain or demonstrate the concept of “Stop Spreading GERMS.” Our tagline also didn’t match the topic.
In conclusion, the STN practice was very good, because it showed that we still need to continue making improvements. Our next STN practice is going to take place on Monday, February 17, 2014 at the Marriott hotel. It will be at the Marriott so we know what it will feel like when we actually go to the STN competition. Please wish us luck! Until next time, MAHALO!!!
